CDF Kahariri reaffirms Kenya’s commitment to South Sudan peace mission

General Kahariri underscored Kenya’s dedication to the CTSAMVM mission and its broader objectives under the peace agreement
Kenya has reiterated its strong commitment to the South Sudan peace process, with Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri reaffirming the country’s unwavering support for ongoing peacekeeping efforts.
General Kahariri made the remarks on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, while hosting Major General Teshome Anagaw, Chairperson of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
A statement from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) revealed that the two leaders discussed strategic priorities to ensure CTSAMVM remains fully engaged in its mission to uphold the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
“As a key guarantor of the peace deal, Kenya remains instrumental in driving dialogue, fostering regional cooperation, and sustaining long-term peace in South Sudan,” KDF noted.
Welcoming the visiting delegation, General Kahariri underscored Kenya’s dedication to the CTSAMVM mission and its broader objectives under the peace agreement. He emphasized that regional stability hinges on lasting peace in South Sudan, pledging Kenya’s continued provision of personnel, technical support, and logistics.
“Peace in South Sudan is not just a regional concern it is a moral duty. Kenya will continue standing by its commitment to IGAD and regional peace efforts,” Kahariri stated.
On his part, Maj. Gen. Teshome thanked Kenya for its consistent leadership in peacekeeping, saying the country remains a model for mediation and regional stability.
Teshome also briefed the Kenyan side on the current progress and operational challenges faced by CTSAMVM in monitoring the ceasefire and overseeing transitional security arrangements in South Sudan.
CTSAMVM is a body formed under the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to monitor the implementation of the R-ARCSS, with participation from IGAD, the African Union, Troika nations, and other international partners.
Also present during the meeting were outgoing CTSAMVM Chair Maj. Gen. Yitayal Gelaw, KDF Chief of Strategic Policy and Plans Brigadier Ronald Makori, and other senior military officials.
